"Shawne from TriStar is the smartest, most trustworthy accountant I have worked with in the 17 years I have been in business. She is reasonable in her fees and if there is an issue she is very quick to respond. I highly recommend her and her team."

Here To Help

The following is a collection of tips that we are constantly adding to in order to make things simpler for our clients. Check back often!

Please contact us before major business changes/purchases/decisions . Our accounting and tax advice may help in how the deal is structured or what decision you make!
Clients should retain and provide the following information for accounting and tax purposes: New property and vehicle purchases or sales, Investments, Business miles and total miles driven for all vehicles used in the business
Clients may need to provide, in addition to their financial statements, bank statements, reconciliations, payroll records, credit card and loan statements.
If using Quickbooks, do not void checks or deposits from a prior year. Portable files are the best way to save and send a file. If the file is large, it can be sent a number of ways, including dropbox.

Some deductions missed as information not provided: sales tax on vehicle purchases, energy credits, education credits, and don’t forget to let us know if you have a new dependent!
Benefits of Efiling include proof of filing with the IRS, less paper and (if you are getting one) a faster refund.
Identity Theft Tips

We all know cyber criminals will keep trying, but there are some things you can do to protect yourself.  Never give out personal information (banking, social security number etc.) over the phone – if you think it is legitimate, ask for the phone number and call back to make sure.  Do not reply to emails requesting any personal information, and be aware the IRS does not send out emails to taxpayers.  If anything sounds too good to be true, it probably is, don’t open the email or respond!  Make sure you shred all paperwork with personal information and have security on your computer.  No guarantees but could prevent a virus or theft.
